2020 Tacoma Moon Festival Program

Due to the pandemic, the 8th Tacoma Moon Festival will not be a live, in-person event. Instead, imagine a beautiful graphic representation of the Park that you can visit from home. As you move around the map on your screen, you can visit the welcome information booth and take a video tour with docents that have intimate knowledge of the park and its history, you can stop by the Ting to watch a wide selection of dance and musical performances from Tacoma’s most beloved heritage groups and local talents, you can learn at the education booths about resources and programs in the community, and you can pick up a mooncake recipe or download a kid’s activity at the vendor booths. The festival will feature an online Asian Teahouse with experts sharing brewing techniques, buying tips, and tasting workshops. Beer and Wine Garden will offer special Moon Festival libations for local Tacoma in-store pickups. This year’s festival poster design features a Jade

Rabbit, a symbol of selflessness, piety, and sacrifice in Chinese culture. With a mortar and pestle, the rabbit works constantly mixing the elixir of life and medicine to heal mortals. In 2020, the health of our communities has suffered greatly. We hope to introduce the Jade Rabbit as the Festival’s mascot of healing magic and the virtue of giving, and to promote the wellness of our communities in these tough times. Festival t-shirts, posters and other merchandise with this special design will be available for order.

A comprehensive Moon Festival experience right on your computer or mobile device! The new Moon Festival website will be unveiled on Thursday, October 1, 2020 and will remain online permanently.

The 8th annual Tacoma Moon Festival would not be possible without community support.  Major event sponsors include Annie Wright Schools, Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation, Dr. Zheng Ge & Lucy Zhou, Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, KBTC, MultiCare, Pacific Northwest Shop and Proctor Mercantile, Tacoma Arts Commission, Tacoma Creates, Tacoma Public Schools, and The Gottfried and Mary Fuchs Foundation.
