141st Anniversary of the Tacoma Chinese Expulsion
Organized by the Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation, this free annual demonstration retraces and reverses the walking path of expulsion forced on Tacoma’s Chinese American population in 1885, reclaiming the City for all peoples and cultures.
2026 Walk merchandise will be available to purchase during both the Welcome and Closing ceremonies of the event.

The walk, led by civic, educational, business and faith leaders, will begin near Union Station, where the Chinese pioneers in 1885 were marched at gunpoint out of town. Walkers will proceed north, led by Chinese Lion Dancers, through downtown Tacoma where many Chinese, and later Japanese businesses and houses once stood, along Schuster Parkway and the railroad- largely built by Chinese labor, and finally arrive at the Chinese Reconciliation Park. Throughout the walk, attendees will be within a half mile of the Northwest ICE Processing Center (NWIPC) where a similar white nationalist agenda continues to be orchestrated.
We are once again offering a shuttle back to the Tacoma Union Station, to return walkers back to their parked vehicles. If you would like to take advantage of this service, meet in the Chinese Reconciliation Park’s parking lot after the event program has concluded. Our organization is committed to ensuring this event is as accessible as possible, as everyone is encouraged to participate in our anti-racist demonstration.

Patti Jackson
Throughout my career — whether leading Corrections, Patrol Operations, or broader agency efforts across the Tacoma Police Department — I have focused on accountability, integrity, and strengthening the people who serve with selfless dedication every day. After more than 35 years in law enforcement, stepping up to serve as the Chief of the Tacoma Police Department isn’t about chasing a title — it’s about answering the call when leadership is needed most.
As a law enforcement professional, I am committed to promoting the wellness, resilience, and professionalism of our personnel. Why? Because when we invest in our people, we become even stronger in the service we provide to our community. My colleagues and I care about our neighbors across the city of Tacoma and are innovating to better serve them with integrity and respect.
It’s an honor to stand with the dedicated men and women of the Tacoma Police Department as we move forward together — leading with purpose, building trust, and always keeping our focus where it belongs: on those we serve.
